Fredrickson State Park Observation Deck

Fredrickson Park, adjacent to LaSalle Council Scout Service Center, is a recently reclaimed dump site featuring trails, a pond, native prairie grasses and wild flowers. This observation deck is used for educational purposed – from scouts, students, and others will observe wild life and take water samples to test. The deck is designed to cantilever over the water’s edge. The rigid structure sits above the clay cap, moving as one piece when the earth expands and contracts. With the help of the local builder’s union, construction using volunteer labor began in June 2008. An Eagle Scout coordinated this project as a part of their Eagle Scout award and the carpenters union volunteered their labor as a part of their apprenticeship program.
