The Cornerstone

Completed in December of 1998, Kil Architecture and Planning provided design and historic rehabilitation services for the former 1922 Elkhart Hotel. The nine story building, now called The Cornerstone, was a 2.4 million dollar project which involved masonry rehabilitation, commercial retail, office, senior apartment remodeling and accessibility improvements. The Main Street façade was entirely renovated by removing the 1974 stucco finish and metal hood canopies, revealing the original arched second floor openings and main level storefront bays. New window systems based upon the original fenestration bring the building back to the character originally envisioned in the 1920’s.
