Uptown Artist Lofts

The Warren building, a 6 story office building in downtown Michigan City, built in 1927, has been developed into the Uptown Artists’ Lofts. The Michigan City Preservation and Education Foundation invited Artspace to determine the feasibility of developing an affordable artist love/work project. With headquarters around the country, Artspace is America’s leader in arts-driven community transformation. The Uptown Artists Lofts features space for classrooms, studios and commercial space, with live/work units on the floors above.

Artspace Uptown Artist Lofts is a mixed-use project with 44 affordable live/work units for artists and their families with ground-floor studio and commercial space. It is centrally located within the Uptown Arts District, a six-block stretch of Franklin Street that is already seeing many signs of arts-driven economic renewal.
