THE RUSHTON
DETAILS
Built in 1906, the Rushton Apartment Building was a four-story building boasting 35 apartments. The dining area was located at the center, and residents would congregate in the lower-level dining room during meal times. The Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana enlisted Kil Architecture and Planning to evaluate the building's condition and create design proposals for its restoration and repurposing. With the help of a regional developer, HLFI transformed the building into 23 senior apartment units, ranging from studios to one and two-bedroom residences. The building now features an elevator and a stair tower, replacing the old fire escape in the courtyard.

Focusing on interaction with the golf course and patron amenities, Kil Architecture worked closely with Tonn and Blank Construction, the design-build lead, to deliver a thoughtful design. Updated finishes, additional bar and kitchen spaces, new golf simulators and flex rooms, accessibility upgrades, and a revitalized outdoor terrace comprised most of the work for this project.
